ABOUT CMP
The Creative Mentorship Program empowers high school students to discover and develop their creative voices and artistic skills through 20 weeks of dedicated work with a professional artist at Golden Belt. It also involves students with the local arts community through monthly group field trips and workshops, and provides the opportunity for a month-long exhibition in the DAG Gallery at Golden Belt.
Through this innovative arts education program, students and mentors work collaboratively to enhance their artistic strengths, express themselves creatively, and expand their creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
This program is an annual collaboration between Student U and DAG that began in 2013. Student U is a community organization that uses the power of education, advocacy, and leadership to build a just and equitable Durham. Student U empowers and equips first-generation college students in Durham Public Schools, their families, and educators to become the leaders that will transform our city.
