From the Betweens @ Golden Belt

The Durham Art Guild presents From the Betweens, Stories on Bringing Back and Beyond featuring new works by DAG’s 2020 Artist in Residence, Claire AlexandreFrom the Betweens is a gathering of stories that center the everyday experiences and ancestral teachings of the complex reciprocity between land, memory and community prosperity. Claire Alexandre’s pieces weave intimate narratives from members of the African diaspora and their experience of ‘home’ that are drawn from academic research, local environmental justice case studies, botanical knowledge, poems, prayers and magic.

This exhibit is on view at the DAG Gallery at Golden Belt Campus January 7 – February 4, 2021. For the health safety of our community while in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this exhibition is only viewable by appointment with advanced notice. About the Durham Art Guild’s annual Artist in Residence Program:

Claire Alexandre was DAG’s 2020 Artist in Residence and this exhibition is the culmination of her residency. This program provides professional studio space for approximately 6 months at Golden Belt Campus in downtown Durham, a $1,000 stipend, regular support from and access to DAG’s professional resources and networks, and an exhibition at the DAG Gallery at Golden Belt for one selected artist each year. The next call for artists for the 2021 Artist in Residence Program will go live this spring.

  • As part of our phased re-opening, this exhibit is viewable by appointment only and with advanced notice. To schedule an appointment please contact
  • DAG staff is limiting the number of scheduled guests to 2 at a time and 6 feet or more social distancing must be honored while in the gallery.
  • Scheduled guests and DAG staff must wear a face covering and must provide full name and phone number for our visitor log.
  • DAG staff is implementing regular and increased cleaning of shared surfaces in this space.
