|Introducing the full DAG University schedule for 2020!|
“Creative Learning for Creative People”
|DAG University is the Durham Art Guild’s new line of professional development programming for local artists. Designed to softly mimic a college curriculum, DAG University consists of annual ‘core’ and rotating ‘elective’ classes that will help artists develop their creative practice, market and sell their work, increase their understanding of the financial and legal aspects of their work, successfully apply to local and state opportunities, and more! Classes will be either panel discussions featuring local experts in the field or hands-on workshops with local experts in the field.The remainder of the DAG University ‘school year’ will consist of two more ‘core’ classes and four ‘elective’ classes:|
January 23 Panel Discussion (Core): Discover Local Artist in Residence Programs
Get tips from the pros! Our panel of local artists and local residency administrators will discuss everything from putting together an effective application to how to best take advantage of your residency period.
February 25 Panel Discussion (Core): Applying for Local and Statewide Funding
Meet the administrators behind two granting processes and learn from artists who have been awarded these grants.
April Workshop (Core): Writing Effective Artist Statements
An Artist Statement is an essential aspect of every artist’s portfolio. Create, update, or improve yours in our hands-on workshop.
May Workshop (Core): Photographing Your Artwork
Get tips from professional photographers about how to best photograph your work. DIY or connect to other resources.
June Panel Discussion (Elective): Approaching Galleries and Building Relationships
A panel of local artists and gallery representatives will speak about how to work effectively with sales galleries.
September Workshop (Elective):Pricing and Valuing Your Work
Learn strategies for setting prices for your art and how to navigate different sales scenarios as you move forward.
October Panel Discussion (Elective): Web and Social Media Marketing for Artists
A panel of artists and professional marketers will provide some successful online marketing strategies.
November Workshop (Elective): Curating and Installing a Show
Professional curators will provide tips and trade secrets for designing an exhibit and installing artwork.
