65TH ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION

All artists working in any medium are encouraged to submit up to 3 original artworks for consideration to one of the Durham Art Guild’s largest and most impressive exhibitions of the year. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Artists chosen by the juror will be included in a group exhibition of selected artworks at the Durham Art Guild’s SunTrust Gallery and will be considered for all awards including $1,400 in cash prizes.
Submission deadline: July 22, 2019 by 11:59 p.m.
Notification of acceptance: August 1, 2019
Delivery of accepted work: August 11 + 12, 2019 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Exhibition dates: August 16 – October 12, 2019
Public receptions during Third Friday Durham: August 16 and September 20, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Juror lecture: Yet to be determined
Pick up of work: October 13 + 14, 2019 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
1st Place: $800 / 2nd Place: $400 / 3rd Place: $200 / People’s Choice Award
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be determined by the juror and announced at the juror lecture on a date yet to be determined in SunTrust Gallery. The People’s Choice Award will be determined by exhibition attendees and will be tallied and announced after the close of the exhibition. Awards will be mailed after the close of the exhibition.
Three additional Honorable Mentrion selections will be made by the juror and those artists will receive a submission fee waiver to submit work for consideration to next year’s 66th Annual Juried Exhibition.
DAG member entry fee is $25. Non-member entry fee is $35. The fee is per artist and each artist can submit up to 3 works with their application. *Some scholarship options for submission fees are available.

ABOUT THE JUROR
Dr. Emily Stamey is Curator of Exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Her most recent projects include Dread & Delight: Fairy Tales in an Anxious World and solo exhibitions of work by Sanford Biggers, Danica Phelps, and Hank Willis Thomas. She is currently preparing To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art, which opens in February. Stamey has held curatorial positions at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in Arizona and the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University in Kansas. Her research focuses on the social histories of modern and contemporary art in the United States. She holds an MA and PhD in art history from the University of Kansas and a BA in art history from Grinnell College in Iowa.
