The selection panel enjoyed reviewing this year’s 32 total applications and taking-in the breadth of talent and ideas that artists submitted. Thank you to all of the applicants for their submissions and for sharing their work.
Each year this is always a very difficult decision to make and each year it gets more competitive. We truly wish we could support all of these projects in some capacity. As this is now the 6th year of this program and we’re finally settling into our new location on Golden Belt Campus, we plan to re-strategize after this cycle on how we can support more artists/projects through this program and expand it sustainably into the future. We understand that affordable space and financial support are ongoing needs for so many artists in this community.
After the individual online reviewing and rating and the in-person discussion and deliberation, the jury panel selected Jade Wilson as DAG’s 2019 Artist in Residence. We look forward to welcoming Jade into the DAG studio at Golden Belt Campus in July. We are excited to share more about Jade’s plans for the residency soon through our newsletter and other channels.
Many applications met our criteria of quality/original work, thoughtful/timely proposal, clear need of opportunity, and compelling community engagement of the proposed project. We strongly encourage all of this year’s applicants to continue pursing their artistic practice and these projects. Please stay tuned for additional announcements about the 2019 – 2020 Artist in Residence Program season.
